Golf Finishes Seventh at Dayton Invitational

KETTERING, Ohio - Joe McCarthy fired a three-over par 71 in the third round to lead the Blue Demons at the Dayton Flyer Invitational. McCarthy finished in a tie for 25th place for his second top 25 finish of the season.
McCarthy finished the 54-hole event with a score of 222 (+9) and finished in a group in 25th place. He was followed by Freddy Thomas in a tie for 27th. Thomas posted a 76 (+5) on Tuesday for a tournament total of 223 (+10).
Kyle Vincze, Charlie Spencer-White, and Bobby Thomas rounded out the DePaul contingent at the NCR Country Club. Vincze shot a 75 (+4) to total 225 (+12) for the tournament and finish in a group in 36th place along with Spencer-White with a mark of 79 (+12) in Tuesday's final round. Bobby Thomas carded a 79 (+8) on the day to conclude the tournament in 58th at 235 (+22).
Miami (Ohio) won the team title with a score of 860 (+8) while the Blue Demons placed 7th after a team total of 875 (+43). Miami's Patrick Flavin defeated Eastern Michigan's Beau Breault in a playoff after two holes. Both finished the tournament with a score of 212 (-1).
The Blue Demons wrap up the fall slate with a match against Loyola on Oct. 30. The two teams face off at Evanston Golf Club in Evanston, Ill.
