Softball Defeats Iowa State 3-2

LAFAYETTE, La. - The DePaul softball team opened day two of the 31st Annual Louisiana Classics with its first victory of the season on Saturday. The Blue Demons (1-2) defeated Iowa State (0-2) 3-2.
DePaul finished with three runs, four hits and an error, while Iowa State had two runs, eight hits and three errors.
Junior transfer Kennedy Garcia (1-0) recorded her first win in the circle as a Blue Demon with Missy Zoch claiming the save. Emma Hylen (0-1) suffered the loss for Iowa State.
Haydn Christensen finished with a team high two hits and a run. Two other Blue Demons recorded a hit in the game.
Iowa State got on board first with a run in the bottom of the first.
DePaul responded with three runs in the top of the second. With Sabrina Kuchta on first after being hit by a pitch, Alysia Rodriguez doubled down the right field line to put Kuchta in scoring position. Hadyn Christensen came to the plate and notched a bunt, which allowed Kuchta and Rodriguez to score off an Iowa State throwing error.
Haydn Christensen scored DePaul's final run of the inning off an RBI double from Dylan Christensen to make the score 3-1.
Iowa State cut the deficit to one with a run in the bottom of the fifth. With Cathlin Bingham and Kelsey McFarland on base, Zoch replaced Garcia in the circle. Zoch struck out Iowa State's next batter, but Rachel Hartman followed with a single to center to score Bingham for the final run.
Garcia finished the game with two strikeouts and three walks in four innings pitched. She faced 21 batters while allowing two earned runs on six hits.
Zoch pitched for three innings, struck out three and allowed two hits.
The Blue Demons return to action this afternoon to face #11/11 Louisiana again at 2 p.m. CT.
