
No. 17/15 DePaul's Six-Game Winning Streak Snapped

MILWAUKEE - On a warm, gorgeous, sun-splashed Sunday afternoon, No. 17/15 DePaul saw its six-game winning streak come to an end.
The Blue Demons dropped a 96-81 decision to Marquette, which is the only team to beat DePaul (22-6, 14-2) in the BIG EAST Conference this season.
Brooke Schulte paced the visiting team with 26 points and 10 rebounds while Kelly Campbell came through with 15 points and eight rebounds. Jacqui Grant contributed 11 points and 11 boards while Amarah Coleman added 11 points and Tanita Allen 10.
Danielle King led all scorers with 28 points on 11-of-13 shooting and added nine assists.
Down by 18 at halftime, DePaul closed to 59-45 early in the third quarter after a 9-3 burst led by Schulte's three-straight baskets. By the midpoint of the quarter, the Blue Demons had outscored Marquette 18-8 to draw within 64-54.
It was an opening to really close in, but the Golden Eagles recovered to take a 75-61 lead into the fourth quarter. Schulte had 22 points going into the final 10 minutes. Marquette scored six unanswered points at the outset of the fourth quarter and led 81-63 with 6:53 left.
But the Blue Demons could never recover from a slow start.
Marquette opened the game hitting its first three shots from distance and the first eight overall in surging to a 19-6 lead just over three minutes from the opening tip. The Blue Demons called timeout to regroup.
The Golden Eagles stayed hot throughout the first 10 minutes, connecting on-16 of-19 shots including 6-of-6 from distance for a 38-24 lead going into the second quarter.
Marquette maintained the assault, and a McKayla Yentz three left the Blue Demons trailing 50-30. Midway through the second quarter, the Golden Eagles were shooting 75 percent from the floor and 70 percent from behind the arc.
A 6-0 spurt left DePaul within 14, but Marquette responded to take a 56-38 lead at halftime. The Golden Eagles shot 65 percent in the first 20 minutes including 7-of-14 from three-point range. Schulte had 10 points at the break while the home team had nearly five players in double figures.
