Women's Tennis Drops Match to St. John's

CHICAGO - The DePaul women's tennis team dropped its first match at home in five years to St. John's on Sunday. The Red Storm defeated the Blue Demons 5-2 on the courts of Lakeshore Sport & Fitness.
Aspasia Avgeri and Ana Vladutu recorded the two points for DePaul (4-5) in their respective singles spots.
St. John's (7-1) grabbed the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3. Patricia Lancranjan and Avgeri won at No. 2 against Zofia Stanisz and Delia Arranz 6-3.
In singles, Vladutu defeated Stephanie Elgegren 6-2, 7-6 at No. 3, while Avgeri defeated Stanisz at No. 4 6-1, 6-3.
The match against St. John's marked the Blue Demons first against a BIG EAST opponent this season.
Up next, DePaul travels to Bloomington, Ind. for a match against Indiana on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 10 a.m. CT. The Blue Demons return home on Sunday, Feb. 26 for a 1 p.m. match against Kansas State.
