Women's Tennis Ends Weekend With a Win

CHICAGO- The DePaul women's tennis team recorded a 4-3 victory over Kansas State on its home court of Lakeshore Sport & Fitness Sunday evening.
DePaul (5-6) finished the weekend 1-1 overall. Kansas State is now 7-4 with the loss.
The Blue Demons grabbed the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3. Seniors Ana Vladutu and Yuliya Shupenia bested Carolina Costamagna and Ines Mesquita at No. 1, while freshmen Florence Abbott and Aspasia Avgeri finished over Iva Bago and Livia Cirnu at No. 3. Both pairs defeated their opponents with a 6-1 mark.
Shupenia and Avgeri also collected wins in singles action.
Shupenia defeated Costamagna at No. 1 6-0, 6-3.
Avgeri took her match to three sets, besting Maria Panaite 7-5, 1-6, 6-2 at No. 5.
Patricia Lancranjan notched DePaul's other singles point at No. 2 with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Millie Stretton.
Up next, the Blue Demons head to Bradley on Saturday, March 4 for a 1 p.m. start and Eastern Illinois on Sunday, March 5 for a 10 a.m. start.
