
Women's Tennis Best Eastern Illinois 6-1

DANVILLE, Ill. - It was a winning weekend for the DePaul women's tennis team as the squad finished with a 6-1 victory at Eastern Illinois on Sunday evening.
With the win, DePaul (7-6, 1-0 BIG EAST) notched a 2-0 overall record for weekend play and now boasts a three-match win streak.
Yuliya Shupenia, Keisha Clousing, Ana Vladutu, Aspasia Avgeri and Florence Abbott clinched wins in both their singles and doubles competition against the Panthers (8-3).
The Blue Demons jumped to a 1-0 lead after notching victories in all three double spots with a 6-1 score. Shupenia and Vladutu defeated Stella Clifee and Kelly Iden at No. 1, while Patricia Lancranjan and Clousing paired at No. 2 to best Emily Pugachevsky and Sristi Slaria. The freshmen tandem of Abbott and Avgeri defeated Maria Moshteva and Kamile Stadalninkaite at No. 3.
DePaul won every singles spot except at No. 2. Shupenia defeated Iden 6-0, 6-1 at the top spot. Clousing won her fourth dual match at No. 3 against Slaria 6-2, 6-0. Vladutu defeated Moshteva 6-2, 6-3 at No. 4, while Avgeri improved to 3-0 at the No. 5 with a 6-2, 6-1 decision over Pugachevsky. Abbott won her match at No. 6 6-4, 6-2 against Stadalninkaite.
It will be a few weeks before the Blue Demons return to the court for competition. Their next match is scheduled for Saturday, April 1 at 3 p.m. against reigning BIG EAST Conference Champions, Xavier at Lakeshore Sport & Fitness.
