Women's Tennis Wins BIG EAST Tournament Title

CAYCE, S.C. - The No. 2 DePaul women's tennis team claimed the 2017 BIG EAST Women's Tennis Championship title after defeating top-ranked St. John's 4-3 on Sunday afternoon at the Cayce Tennis & Fitness Center.
This win marks DePaul's (17-7) third BIG EAST tournament title in the last four years.
The final point came down to Keisha Clousing and Anna Morozova at No. 2 singles. Clousing finished the match with a two-set 6-4, 7-5 victory to earn the Blue Demons their automatic ticket to the NCAA Tournament.
DePaul jumped to a 1-0 lead with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to notch the first point. Florence Abbott and Ana Vladutu defeated Olaya Inclan Solis and Sofia Stanisz 6-2 at No. 3, while Clousing and Patricia Lancranjan recorded a 6-2 win over Stephanie Elgegren and Delia Arranz at No. 2.
Lancranjan carried her energy to singles action to claim the first singles point and put the Blue Demons up 2-0 with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Elgegren at No. 3.
The Red Storm went up 3-2 by etching the next three singles points at No. 6, No. 1 and No. 5 before Ana Vladutu tallied a three-set 2-6, 6-2, 6-2 win over Stanisz at No. 4.
Clousing then followed with the finishing touch at No. 2.
Lancranjan was named the BIG EAST tournament's Most Outstanding Player. Over the course of three matches, she went 3-0 at No. 3 singles and 3-0 at No. 2 doubles with Clousing.
DePaul will now wait to see its placement in the 2017 NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Tournament after the selection show on Tuesday, May 2 at 4:30 p.m. CT.
