Marquette acquired their eighth consecutive BIG EAST sweep in Friday's contest against the Blue Demons.
MILWAUKEE, Wisc. – The Blue Demons fell short against Marquette 3-0 (7-25, 16-25, 14-25). With this win, the Golden Eagles acquired their eighth consecutive BIG EAST sweep. DePaul's record is now 5-16 (3-7 BIG EAST).
"Hats off to Marquette tonight," said head coach Marie Zidek. "All of their role players had unbelievable matches.
"We weren't able to play close to our level over a consistent amount of time, and when you play No. 18 in the country, you have to bring your A-game and your most competitive mindset.
"We will regroup and get to work on Monday with the opportunity for revenge against Providence next Friday evening top of mind."
Marquette slammed down immediate kills to take a 2-0 lead. The Golden Eagles held DePaul to seven points to take the first set 25-7.
The Blue Demons were more present in the second set as a monstrous Donna Brown kill gave DePaul the first point. DePaul would eventually fall behind 10-7 but would bring the difference to one after a block from Emma Price and Brown paired with a MU attack error. From there, the Golden Eagles went on a 3-0 run to gain back a comfortable lead and would go on to take the second set 25-16.
The Golden Eagles aggressively jumped out to a 6-2 lead in the third stanza. After a 4-0 run, Marquette stood in a lead of 10-4. The Blue Demons were able to put nine more points on the board, but Marquette would go on to take the match after a 25-14.
With this being DePaul's lone match of the weekend, the Blue Demons will return to action next weekend as they host Providence on Friday at 7:00 p.m. and Creighton Saturday at 6:00 p.m. at McGrath-Phillips arena.
