Volleyball Falls to Friars
10/26/2018 8:58:00 PM | WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL
DePaul will host Creighton tomorrow in a 6:00 p.m. match.
CHICAGO – The Blue Demons remained responsive and held Providence to a narrow lead in each stanza but could not get ahead to drop 0-3 (20-25, 24-26, 23-25). This alters DePaul's record to 5-17 (3-8 BIG EAST).
The Blue Demons first two points came from Emma Price kills to knot up the score early on. The Friars quickly led DePaul by half at 6-3 but kills from Avarie Evans-Allen and Claire Anderson brought DePaul within one. Providence would remain in the lead until Evans-Allen slammed the ball down into PC territory to knot the score at 15's and a Mattie Norris kill would tie the score up again with 17's across the board. With Providence reaching set point, Coach Zidek would call a timeout and the Friars would have the final say out of the stoppage, taking the first set 25-20.
DePaul started strong on a 5-1 run featuring a kill from Price, two kills from Evans-Allen, an Isabelle Banez service ace and a PC attack error. Though the Friars would remain responsive and would even come within one point at 10-9, however, a huge Donna Brown kill would keep DePaul ahead until the Friars caught up at 11's. The next two points would come from Price and Isabell De La Rosa kills to put DePaul back in the lead at 13-11. The score would knot four more times before PC inched away and regardless of DePaul holding the Friars at set point and matching the score at 24's Providence would claim the next two to take their second set 26-24.
The first six points would be exchanged between opponents to bind the score at 3's. The Friars would then go on a 4-0 run to take the lead that they would comfortably remain in until DePaul went on a 4-0 run featuring a PC service error, a Price kill, a block by Price and Donna Brown, capped off with a MacKenzie Savage service ace to knot the score at 13's, forcing a Friar timeout. Providence would score four of the next five points out of the stoppage to land in a 17-14 lead. The Blue Demons would remain responsive to score the next four of five points and tie it up at 18's. With the teams meeting once again at 21's, the Friars would have the final say, taking the match on a 25-23 set win.
The Blue Demons will host No. 10 Creighton tomorrow in a 6:00 p.m. match at McGrath-Phillips Arena.
