CHICAGO - The United Soccer Coaches announced the Team Academic Award winners on Thursday to recognize exemplary classroom performances for the 2017-18 academic year. Out of the 773 Team Academic Award recipients, 191 schools had both men's and women's soccer programs earn the award, including DePaul for the 14th consecutive year.Â
Success on and off the field is a mainstay for DePaul Athletics and for the 16th year in a row women's soccer, coached by Erin Chastain, has earned the team award. This is the 17th time in program history women's soccer has been named a Team Academic Award winner.Â
Chastain's squad has earned the award every year under her leadership.Â
To qualify for an award, a team must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 or higher for the entire academic year. The team GPA is determined by adding every player's GPA, then dividing by the number of players. DePaul's women's team posted a 3.74 GPA, the fifth highest among all women's Team Academic Award winners. DePaul's men's team, under the helm of head coach Mark Plotkin, accrued a 3.57, the fourth highest among the men's recipients.Â
This is the 11th consecutive year the men's soccer team has won the award.Â
