CHICAGO - Head women's soccer coach Erin Chastain is pleased to announce the addition of seven new members to the roster for the 2019 season. Kristin Boos, Kolbee Hale, Nathalia Lopez, Megan Malecha, Elena Milam, Maria Nordness and Jadyn Scholler have all signed a National Letter of Intent and will join the Blue Demons at the beginning of next season.
"We are very excited about our 2019 class," Chastain said. "We expect each player to come in and increase the competitiveness of our team. We also know that all of these young women will embody the core values of our program and be wonderful representatives of our women's soccer program on and off the field."
Â
Kristin Boos is a forward from Sterling Heights, Mich., who is an accomplished and high-scoring player. As of this last May, Boos had scored 91 goals as a part of the Mira Costa High School team. A club player for United FC, the forward has scored 30 goals in 16 games. Chastain knows she is very technical and possessed a great soccer IQ.
"Kristen is a goal scorer who is great back to goal," Chastain said.
Kolbee Hale comes to DePaul from Manhattan Beach, CA. She plays for Beach FC, one of the top clubs in the country.
"Kolbee has great pace and is tenacious," Chastain said. "She can play anywhere on the flank. She has good service and tremendous work-rate."
Nathalia Lopez is a central forward and attacking mid from Strikers FC ECNL. The Santa Ana, Calif. native can strike the ball well and is highly skilled.
"Nathalia has a great ability to combine and create dangerous opportunities for herself and her teammates," Chastain said. "She is a great striker of the ball."
Megan Malecha hails from Wayzata, Minn., continuing the connection to Wayzata High School. Chastain, Megan Pyrz (11-14) and Morgan Turner (2017-present) all played at Wayzata. The defender plays with great speed and has the ability to read the game and make an impact.
"Megan has tremendous pace and is a good 1 v 1 defender," Chastain said.
Elena Milam comes to DePaul from the highly competitive club Crossfire Premier DA out of Washington. The Seattle, Wa. native and soon-to-be Ballard high school alumna is a great shot stopper and comfortable with her feet.
"We expect Elena to come in and compete and be a great addition to our team," Chastain said.
Maria Nordness is following in her sister's footsteps in becoming a Blue Demon. Kylie Nordness played for DePaul from 2010-13 and was an All-BIG EAST First Team Defender. The Milwaukee, Wisc. Native plays club for FC Wisconsin Eclipse and is also a defender, like Kylie, and consistently builds possession from the back.
"Maria is a phenomenal athlete and is a fierce competitor," Chastain said. Â
Jadyn Scholler is from Rosemount, MN and is a forward who can combine, score and finish with her head.
"She has great work-rate and toughness and will bring a blue-collar mentality to our front line," Chastain said.
