Grays' Career Best Leads No. 20/17 DePaul Past Oklahoma 87-76

Senior scores 26 points and reaches 1,000-point mark in her career
CHICAGO – The latest installment in a highly entertaining rivalry once again had fans fully engaged Sunday afternoon.
A dominant second quarter set up No. 20/17 DePaul with an 87-76 victory over Oklahoma at the Lloyd Noble Center.
Mart'e Grays paced the Blue Demons with a career- high 26 points featuring a career-high 12 field goals. The senior forward also became the program's 37th player to score 1,000 points in a career. Ashton Millender had 19 points and tied a career high with seven rebounds.
Freshman Lexi Held scored 17 points, hitting some big shots in the second half. Chante Stonewall contributed 13 points, six rebounds and three steals. Kelly Campbell finished with four points, 10 rebounds, eight assists and three steals.
After leading by 23 at halftime, the Blue Demons expanded the margin to 62-35 after Held's third-straight three. Oklahoma chipped away and a 17-0 run made it 66-56 in the latter stages of the third quarter. The Sooners came within 70-62 heading into the fourth quarter.
The Sooners were within seven when a Grays three followed by a Stonewall basket restored a double-digit lead. Millender's layup midway through the fourth quarter made it 85-73, and DePaul (7-3) closed it out from there.
A fast start propelled the Blue Demons to a 15-2 lead midway through the first quarter. The visiting team made six of its first 11 shots in an offensive outburst sparked by Millender.
The Sooners (3-6) outscored DePaul 15-8 from there as the team from Lincoln Park led 23-17 after one quarter.
The second quarter looked like a difference-maker with the Blue Demons winning it by a 30-13 margin. Five Millender points, a Stonewall three-point play and a Sonya Morris basket sparked a 12-0 run leading to a 37-19 advantage.
Playing her poised, confident game, Held hit a three-pointer and followed with a basket combining with seven Grays points and a Rebekah Dahlman fast-break layup to send their team roaring into the Lloyd Noble Center tunnel with a 53-30 halftime lead.
Grays converted seven of her first 11 shots to score 15 points by intermission. Stonewall had 11 points, Held nine, Millender eight and Campbell four points, five rebounds and four assists.
After skillfully navigating their way through a hectic and challenging segment of their nonconference schedule, the Blue Demons catch a week-long break and will resume the season Dec. 17 against Tennessee State at McGrath-Phillips Arena.
