LAS VEGAS - On day two of the Rebel Classic, the DePaul softball team picked up its second straight win with a 6-0 victory against Portland State.
DePaul (16-5) jumped on the board with a 1-0 lead in the opening inning of play. Right fielder Megan Leyva continued her hot-hitting from Thursday night into Friday's contest, driving in the first Blue Demon run of the game. Freshman Kate Polucha led off the inning reaching on a dropped fly ball by the Portland State center fielder. After Polucha advanced to third on back-to-back wild pitches, Leyva lifted a sacrifice fly to the center field wall, allowing Polucha to score for the 1-0 DePaul lead.
An inning later, the Blue Demons added three more runs to their tally as Leyva launched a three-run home run over the left-center field fence for the 4-0 advantage. Prior to Leyva's home run, Angela Scalzitti led off the inning with a five-pitch walk while Polucha connected for a single to left.
