Baker arrives from Butler with three years of eligibility remaining
CHICAGO – DePaul softball added to its pitching staff on Wednesday afternoon, as head coach Liz Bouck-Jagielski announced the signing of right-handed pitcher Gwen Baker. The Wisconsin native arrives in Chicago after spending her freshman campaign at Butler.
"Gwen has a successful track record in the BIG EAST and I believe she will be a tremendous asset in propelling us to the top of the conference quickly," Bouck-Jagielski said.
"From our first conversation, I knew she was a perfect fit. Her immediate commitment shows the trust she has in our vision. Gwen embodies the hunger we need to elevate DePaul back to the national stage and I have complete confidence that she will deliver results."
During the 2025 season, Baker led the Butler pitching staff in ERA (3.60), wins (11) and fewest runs (61). She tallied six complete games, including a victory over St. John's where she struck out eight and did not concede an earned run. The right-hander also nabbed a trio of BIG EAST Freshman of the Week awards, one of just two freshmen who earned the recognition multiple times.
"I chose DePaul because the team and coaching staff were so supportive and welcoming," said Baker. "They truly believe in me and know how successful I can be. DePaul will push me in the classroom and on the field, which will also set me up for my future. I can't wait to be a Blue Demon."
Baker plans to pursue a degree in sports business.
