CHICAGO - There was plenty of drama taking place Saturday at Lakeshore Sport & Fitness culminating with a walk-off winner.
Christopher Casati realized during his No. 4 singles match that the BIG EAST showdown with Butler was tied 3-3. The sophomore from north suburban Deerfield dropped the first set to Spencer Lang and then rallied for a 7-5 score in the second set.
Everything came down to the final set of the day, and Casati came through with a clutch 6-4 result in DePaul's 4-3 victory.
Butler (13-6, 1-2 in the BIG EAST) took an early 1-0 lead by winning two of three doubles matches.
Boris Spanjaard evened things up with a 6-2, 6-0 triumph over Mason Dragos at No. 1 singles. The Bulldogs went back on top with a win at No. 5 singles.
The Blue Demons (13-9, 2-1) responded with back-to-back victories by Tripp Tuff at No. 6 and Alex Galoustian at No. 2.
Butler extended the suspense by winning at No. 3 singles to deadlock the match at 3-3. That's when Casati put the finishing touches on a Saturday afternoon thriller.
DePaul returns to Lakeshore Sport & Fitness Sunday for a nonconference match against New Mexico State with first serve at 1:15 p.m.
