DePaul to Co-Host Chicago Classic This Weekend
8/30/2018 3:43:00 PM | MEN'S SOCCER
Teams participating include Oakland and Loyola Marymount
CHICAGO - DePaul men's soccer will co-host the Hampton Inn at Chicago Classic with the Loyola-Chicago Ramblers this weekend. The Blue Demons will take on the Oakland Grizzlies first at 4:00 p.m. CT on Friday, August 31 and will conclude the weekend against the Loyola Marymount Lions at 2:00 p.m. CT on Sunday, September 2 at Wish Field.Â
Loyola-Chicago will host LMU on Friday and Oakland on Sunday. A tournament winner will be declared on Sunday along with an All-Tournament team. DePaul was previously crowned champion of the Chicago Classic in 2016 and have their sights set on earning that same title in 2018. Through two matches so far this season, DePaul (1-1) is bringing momentum from their takedown of No. 8/14 Western Michigan on Monday, August 27 into the first game of the tournament against Oakland.Â
Scouting the Grizzlies
Oakland (1-0-1) notched their first win of the season against Marshall on Monday, 3-2, after a late game-winning goal by senior midfielder Jacob Moore in the 82nd minute. The Grizzlies, hoping to rebound from a 6-10-1 2017 record, were picked sixth in the preseason Horizon League pool. They previously won the league championship back-to-back in 2014 and 2015. With 16 letterwinners and six starters returning, Oakland has 11 newcomers on the squad.Â
Following Friday's contest, the Blue Demons will have a day in between the match to prepare for the next one against LMU.Â
Scouting the Lions
The Lions (1-1) were picked to finish seventh in the WCC under the two-decade long leadership of Paul Krumpe. He coached his squad to victory over UC Riverside last week. LMU returns 18 players, including season standout Kris Fourcand, a sophomore forward who has scored the first goal for the team this season, but one goal in each of the Lions' games so far.Â
