DePaul fell to No. 10 Creighton in three sets to drop the first 2018 BIG EAST match.
OMAHA, Neb. - DePaul dropped in three sets to No. 10 Creighton to open 2018 BIG EAST play, altering DPU's overall record to 2-10 (0-1 BIG EAST).Â
Regardless of the final numbers, sophomore libero Isabelle Banez shined, as she remained persistent and led both teams in digs with 14, with the second highest being shared by two Creighton sources with 11-a-piece.
In the first set, Creighton burst out to a 5-0 lead until a CU service error gave DePaul its first point. DePaul offense remained quiet in the first stanza until the Blue Demons were able to drag out a rally at set point but the Bluejays took the tally to close the first set 25-13.
Emma Price slammed a kill into Creighton territory to give DePaul the first point in the second set. With Creighton quickly responding and jumping ahead, the match would go on to find the lone bind in the score at 2-2. The Bluejays would tally nine unanswered points that would spark the momentum that would give them the second set, 25-12.
With DePaul putting up the first point for the second consecutive set on a thunderous Mattie Norris kill, the third set would intertwine throughout, seeing eight knots in the score, with the highest being at 10's before Creighton broke away on a three-point run. Regardless of DePaul putting up a fight, Creighton would have the final say, taking the final set 25-15.
With an off day tomorrow, the Blue Demons will travel to Rhode Island to continue BIG EAST play Sunday at Providence in a noon match at Alumni Hall.
