The Blue Demons clinch their first win of dual-season play
CHICAGO – The DePaul women's tennis team came up big on Saturday night on the courts of the Lakeshore Sport and Fitness Center.
The Blue Demons (1-2, 1-0 BIG EAST) captured their first win of dual match season and BIG EAST Conference play with a 4-3 victory over Georgetown (1-2, 1-1 BIG EAST).
On Saturday, the Blue Demons got off to a fast start with a dominating doubles performance on the part of pairs Keisha Clousing/Lenka Antonijevic and Milica Tesic/Maddie Yergler to clinch the 1-0 advantage.
In singles action, Coach Mark Ardizzone's team continued their quick work of Georgetown to take a 3-0 match lead after singles victories by No. 1 Clousing over Moenster 6-1, 6-0 and Aspasia Avgeri's win at No. 3 over Georgetown's Risa Nakagawa 7-6, 6-1.
Fending off a late rally by the Hoyas, sophomore Marija Jovicic clinched the match for DePaul with a 6-1, 7-5 win over Anna Short in the No. 5 position.
The Blue Demons will shoot for a BIG EAST weekend sweep with a 3 p.m. match versus Butler on Sunday.
