Blue Demons complete the BIG EAST weekend sweep
CHICAGO- The Blue Demons returned to the courts of Lakeshore Sport & Fitness on Sunday afternoon with a resounding 7-0 sweep of the visiting Butler Bulldogs.Â
In a dominating performance, DePaul (2-2, 2-0 BIG EAST) clinched all of its singles matches in two sets.
In doubles action, Lenka Antonijevic and Keisha Clousing defeated Butler's Emily Neal and Sara Linn 6-2 at No. 1. The tandem of Aspasia Avgeri and Marija Jovicic followed suit with a 6-4 finish over Sarah Monesmith and Lauryn Padgett at No. 2. Milica Tesic and Maddie Yergler finished it off with a 7-6 win against Caroline McAuley and Kendal Wilby at No. 3.
Clousing kept things rolling for the Blue Demons in singles action. The senior notched the first singles point with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Neal at the top spot.
Yergler recorded DePaul's next point with a 6-2, 6-0 win over McAuley at No. 6.
Securing the match for the Blue Demons, Alina Kuzmenkova  got back in the win column with a defeat of Padgett at No. 2, 6-2, 5-2 (retired).
Jovicic continued her winning ways this weekend with a decisive 6-0, 6-1 victory over Linn at No. 4.
At No. 5, Tesic took down Nina Bertino 6-0,6-4, while Avgeri ended the match with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Monesmith at No. 3.
The Blue Demons return to action on Feb. 2 with a trip to Minneapolis, Minn. for the prestigious Courtside Classic.Â
