Blue Demons Set to Host Two Contests
10/10/2019 9:18:00 AM | WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL
CHICAGO - After a weekend off, DePaul is back in action as the Blue Demons host two contests at McGrath-Phillips Arena. Friday features an 11 a.m. match against Creighton and DePaul hosts Providence Saturday at 6 p.m.Â
The Blue Demons are currently 9-7 (1-3 BIG EAST) on the season after a close five set loss at Butler last Wednesday.Â
FROM ZIDEK
"This is why the BIG EAST Conference is so exciting. On any given weekend, you have the chance to play drastically different styles of volleyball on back-to-back nights," said head coach Marie Zidek. "It is easy to stay motivated especially when the group hits October where school and sport are both time demanding. In recent years, Creighton has had lots of arms and a threatening offense. They've played in a lot of big time matches and won a lot through the transition game this year. Their middles are having banner seasons, and Ballenger is one of our favorite players to play in conference.
"Providence is different and has the capability to be just as potent – they just score in drastically different ways. They bring a lot of variety in their offensive patterns and a unique style of play that requires your brain and attention to be in top shape because their attackers move around a lot. They use a lot of misdirection and off speed and they are always relentless on defense.
"Both are exciting match-ups this weekend as our group continues to stay hungry. We believe October can be a great month for us where skill, and the consistent of execution of that skill, can catch up to our systems and decision making that has won us a lot of matches earlier on this season. Also, it is our DIG PINK weekend and we remain committed to speaking about Breast Cancer awareness through the SIDEOUT Foundation. We look forward to seeing everybody out at the matches."
