CHICAGO, Ill. - The Blue Demons tested Creighton but fell in three sets 0-3 (18-25, 21-25, 15-25) in front of a crowd of over 1,000 students Friday morning on Field Trip Day.Â
FROM COACH ZIDEK
"Hats off to Creighton," said head coach Marie Zidek. "They continue to serve really, really well and they rely a lot on their offense. For us, Donna Brown and Bailey Nelson really stepped up and Claire Anderson had a great game defensively. We are so close to putting it all together. I firmly believe we have the best system in this conference. We just need to continue to work on the skill and the consistency of our skill execution especially in our serve receive game. Creighton has got a great team and we are right there with them but they just served us off the court today. We are looking forward to tomorrow and take a lot of positives from a match like this."
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET ONE » Creighton jumped into a 4-1 lead but a kill from Avarie Evans-Allen and a Katie Dolan service ace would bring DePaul within one. With Creighton leading 12-7, the Blue Demons went on a 4-0 run courtesy of kills from Emma Price and Donna Brown along with a couple of Bluejay errors. Creighton would take the next three points, urging the first DePaul timeout. Creighton would maintain a lead and DePaul would reach within two after an Evans-Allen kill and CU attack error made it 17-19. The Blue Demons would call another timeout being down 17-21 and Creighton would go on to take the first set 25-18.
SET TWO » It was a back and forth battle with four knots in the score until Creighton broke away into a 17-13 lead. Kills from Bailey Nelson and Donna Brown eventually brought DePaul within two at 15-17 but the next two points would go to the Bluejays to lead to a DePaul timeout. Out of the stoppage, Claire Anderson threw down a big kill and Brown would soon pounce again to shrink the deficit at 17-20. DePaul kept with it but could not catch up as Creighton took the second set 25-21.
SET THREE » Points were exchanged back and forth for three knots in the score before Creighton went on a 3-0 run to lead 7-3 and instigate a DePaul timeout. Out of the break, the Bluejays were able to burst into a comfortable lead, doubling DePaul's score at 16-8. After another Blue Demon timeout, Brown pounded out a kill but Creighton would continue to expand its lead and would go on to take the final set 25-15.
