DePaul Falls to St. John's in Four Sets

QUEENS, N.Y. - The Blue Demons are now 11-11 (3-7 BIG EAST) after falling to St. John's in four sets 3-1 (19-25, 29-27, 15-25, 19-25) Saturday evening.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET ONE » St. John's jumped out to a 3-1 lead but DePaul quickly caught up to knot the score. It was neck in neck until DePaul escaped on a 4-0 run to lead 14-10, urging the Red Storm to call the first timeout. Out of the break, DePaul expanded its lead to 17-12 but St. John's went on a 8-0 run to take back the lead and bring about a Blue Demon timeout. St. John's took the first set 25-19.Â
SET TWO » It was a back and forth battle throughout the entirety of the set with the difference remaining narrow until DePaul grabbed a three point advantage at 19-16 leading to the first timeout. St. John's met DePaul at 19-19 and called a timeout with the Blue Demons leading 22-20. St. John's took back the lead and the Blue Demons called one final timeout being down by one at set point. DePaul took the second set 29-27.
SET THREE » Points exchanged back and forth until St. John's took a lead that grew to 16-10. Out of a DePaul timeout, the Red Storm continued to expand its lead. St. John's took the third set 25-15.Â
SET FOUR » DePaul burst into a 7-4 lead and regardless of the Red Storm tying things up, the Blue Demons were able to gain back a comfortable advantage. The score knotted again at 19-19 and St. John's took the final set 25-19.Â
