DePaul Drops to Butler in Five Sets

CHICAGO - The Blue Demons are now 11-12Â (3-8Â BIG EAST) after falling to Butler 2-3 (25-23, 25-22, 22-25, 18-25, 8-15) Friday evening at McGrath-Phillips Arena.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET ONE » Natalie Hayward put DePaul on the board first with a service ace. Butler eventually found a 15-10 advantage but the Blue Demons would eventually knot the score 17-17 on a Katie Dolan service ace. The teams met again at 22-22 but a kill from Emma Price gave DePaul the first set 25-22.Â
SET TWO » Points exchanged back and forth and a 3-0 scoring run would put DePaul up 6-3. The Blue Demons lead was narrow until they distanced themselves for a 23-17 advantage. A Donna Brown kill capped off another 25-22 set win for DePaul.Â
SET THREE » Butler jumped into a 4-0 lead and DePaul caught up, knotting the score at 5-5. It would be a back and forth battle until Butler distanced into a 22-16 lead and ended up taking the third set 25-22.Â
SET FOUR » An Emma Price kill gave DePaul the first point and the difference would once again remain narrow until the Bulldogs broke into a 17-13 lead. Butler went on to take the set 25-18, forcing a fifth set.
SET FIVE » Butler burst into a 4-0 lead and maintained a comfortable advantage, taking the final set 15-8.Â
