CHICAGO - DePaul softball head coach Tracie Adix-Zins announced today the 2020 schedule for the Blue Demons. The non-conference agenda features five tournaments and after that, the team will see action against seven BIG EAST opponents starting March 20 as DePaul hosts Butler.
Entering her second season at the helm of the program, Adix-Zins is fresh off of leading the team to its third-consecutive BIG EAST Championship title and third-consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance, the 21st in program history, in a successful 2019 campaign.
"We are extremely excited about the upcoming season and the schedule that we put together," said Adix-Zins. "We believe this schedule will help push and prepare us to compete for another BIG EAST title. We have a wide range of opponents this season, with nine finishing in the top 100 RPI rankings, including two NCAA Super Regional appearance teams in Northwestern and Kentucky. We are playing a plethora of teams from the midwest as well who are all very competitive within their conferences. Returning most of our team from last season, we are very excited about the potential that this year holds."
The Blue Demons will open up the 2020 season at the UNI-Dome Classic in Cedar Falls, Iowa, where they will compete against South Dakota State, South Dakota, Drake and host Northern Iowa Feb. 7-9. Next, the team will head East to Greenville, N.C. to compete in the Pirate Clash where they will face George Washington, host East Carolina and Hampton Feb. 14-16.
DePaul will face Samford, Kentucky and Georgia Tech in the Samford Tournament Feb. 21-23 before competing in-state at the Saluki Invitational to kick off a new month of play. There, DePaul will face Western Illinois, IUPUI, host Southern Illinois and Northern Illinois March 6-8.
For its last invitational of the season, the DePaul softball team will venture West to Los Angeles, Calif. to compete against UC Santa Barbara, California State Northridge, Wagner, Iowa State and host Loyola Marymount at the LMU Tournament March 13-15.
Conference play begins at Cacciatore Stadium as DePaul hosts Butler in a three-game series ranging from March 20-22. The Blue Demons pause league play to host Northwestern for a lone mid-week contest on March 25 before resuming BIG EAST play at home for a series against Georgetown March 27-29.
The team will hit the road to continue league play with a series at Creighton April 3-5 and another set at Seton Hall April 9-11. DePaul will then play an away contest at UIC April 15 before returning home.
One last home stretch of the season will feature a series against St. John's April 17-19 and Villanova April 24-26 with a lone contest against non-conference opponent Illinois sandwiched in between on April 22. DePaul will play one last non-league contest April 28 at Northern Illinois before capping off the regular season with one final BIG EAST series at Providence May 1-3.
This season, the BIG EAST Tournament remains at The Ballpark at Rosemont and will take place over the stretch of three days from May 8-10. The tournament has officially changed from single to double-elimination.
