Blue Demons Travel to Iowa for Gavitt Tipoff Games

CHICAGO - America's busiest team plays its fourth game of the opening week as the Blue Demons travel to Iowa. DePaul and Iowa meet in the first game of the 2019 edition of the Gavitt Tipoff Games between the BIG EAST and Big Ten conferences. Start time at Carver-Hawkeye Arena is 7 p.m.

Monday's game will be televised on FS1 with Jeff Levering (play-by-play) and Steve Lavin (analyst) handling the broadcast duties. The game can also be seen online on the FOX Sport app and foxsports.com/live. Iowa is 1-0 this season following an 87-60 win over SIU Edwardsville on Friday. Iowa reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament a year ago and finished with a 23-12 record including a 10-10 mark in Big Ten play. DePaul stands at 3-0 following wins over Alcorn State (72-54) on Tuesday, Chicago (84-55) on Wednesday and Fairleigh Dickinson (70-59) on Friday. The Blue Demons are coming off last season that finished with a 19-17 overall record and 7-11 mark in the BIG EAST.

DePaul in the Gavitt Tipoff Games: The Blue Demons are playing for the fifth time in the annual series between teams from the BIG EAST and Big Ten. A year ago, DePaul defeated Penn State in overtime by a score of 72-70 at Wintrust Arena. Monday's game is DePaul's third road game in the series with trips to Illinois (L, 82-73) in 2017 and Penn State (L, 68-62) in 2015. DePaul hosted Rutgers in a 66-59 loss in the 2016 event.

DePaul attempted a season-high 19 free throws in the first half… the Blue Demons finished with 28 attempts.

Jaylen Butz recorded his second game in double figures of the season… 15th career.

Busy Blue Demons: DePaul faces a busy start to the 2019-20 season with three games in the first four days and four games in the first seven days of the 2019-20 campaign. Overall, the Blue Demons will play eight games between Nov. 5-29 and the eight contests are the most in program history for the month of November. The Blue Demons played seven games in November 2012 and six each in November 2013 and 2006.

The Opponent - Iowa Hawkeyes: Iowa is 1-0 in the first week of the season... the Hawkeyes defeated SIU Edwardsville, 87-60, on Friday... Iowa reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament a year ago and finished with a 23-12 record... the Hawkeyes went 10-10 in Big Ten play... Luke Garza is the top returning scorer after averaging 13.1 points per game last season... Garza posted a 20-point, 12-rebound double-double against SIUE on Friday...
