CHICAGO - The DePaul men's soccer program fell to Marquette in their regular season finale in a 1-0 result at Wish Field. The Blue Demons finished the 2019 year with with a 5-9-3 overall record, going 1-5-3 in BIG EAST play.
Following a defensive stalwart leaving both teams scoreless following the first half, it didn't take the Golden Eagles long to capitalize on their offensive pressure. In the 61st minute, Lukas Sunnesson found the back of the net on the far post after handling a cross from Manuel Cukaj.
DePaul found its best chance on goal in the 66th minute off a Jake Fuderer corner kick. After the ball was jumbled around a bit in the box, a shot by Michael Anderson was blocked before Jack Richards passed the ball to Max de Bruijne who fired a rocket towards the goal. Marquette goalie Cedrik Stern got the slightest touch on the ball to change the direction of the ball before hitting the crossbar and rebounding out of the reach of any DePaul players.
Blue Demon keeper Drew Nuelle made nine stops against the Golden Eagles, one shy of his career high. DePaul fired off eight total shots, two on goal coming from Youssef Ramadan and de Bruijne in his final game as a Blue Demon.
