Blue Demons Fall in Three Sets at Marquette

CHICAGO - The Blue Demons are now 11-14 (3-10 BIG EAST) after falling to Marquette in three sets 0-3 (23-25, 18-25, 17-25) Friday evening.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET ONE » Marquette jumped out to a 2-0 lead and a Golden Eagle attack error paired with a service ace from Isabelle Banez knotted the score. A 6-0 run featuring two kills apiece from Donna Brown and Brittany Maxwell put the Blue Demons in a 7-3 lead, urging Marquette to call a timeout. DePaul maintained the lead until the teams met at 12-12. The lead exchanged back and forth until Marquette went on a 3-0 run to lead 16-14 leading to DePaul's first break of the match. The score knotted once again at 21-21 as both teams stayed in the fight. The difference remained slim for the remainder of the set but Marquette took the first one 25-23.Â
SET TWO » Marquette once again got on board first but DePaul quickly matched things up. The difference remained almost nonexistent until Marquette escaped into a 14-10 advantage leading to a DePaul timeout. Out of the stoppage, Marquette maintained the lead and took the second set 25-18.Â
SET THREE » It was once again back and forth until Marquette escaped into a 7-4 lead, forcing DePaul to talk things out. Out of the stoppage, the Golden Eagles continued to expand their lead on a 7-0 run. Marquette distanced itself into an even bigger lead and took the final set 25-17.Â

The tables turn as the Blue Demons host the Golden Eagles tomorrow at 6 p.m. CT.Â
