DePaul will take on Florida Atlantic, Stetson and Tennessee Tech in Boca Raton
CHICAGO – The Blue Demons are heading to sunny, warm Florida this weekend to play three matches in Boca Raton at the FAU Tennis Complex.
They will face host Florida Atlantic at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday and follow up with a 1 p.m. match against Stetson. On Sunday, DePaul will
oppose Tennessee Tech at 8 a.m.
Coach Matt Brothers' band is off to a successful start in the dual-match season with a 5-2 record including 2-0 against BIG EAST competition. They have won four in a row, but will encounter a new wrinkle with their first outdoor matches of the dual season.
Vito Tonejc has set the tone for the promising beginning with a 6-1 record. Boris Spanjaard is 5-2 early in the dual schedule while Luuk Wassenaar is 4-2. Vito's older brother Fran Tonejc is 4-3. Overall, Spanjaard sports a sparkling 15-5 record with his success in last fall's tournament season.
In doubles play, the Tonejc tandem is 10-6 on the season and 2-2 in duals. The Conor O'Meara/Wassenaar combo is 4-1 in the dual season.
FAU comes into the weekend with a 5-5 record including a 4-2 mark at neutral sites. The Owls enter their home opener having defeated Nebraska, Northern Florida, UNCW, Louisville and Florida Gulf Coast. Two of their losses came to nationally ranked opponents---No. 4 Florida and No. 20 Florida State.
Stetson is off to a 3-3 start with wins over Morgan State, Florida A&M and Florida Southern and losses to Miami, Bethune-Cookman and USF.
Tennessee Tech is 1-4 in the dual season, 0-3 on the road and 1-1 on a neutral court. The Golden Eagles have topped Illinois State and one of their losses came to No. 1 Wake Forest.
