Blue Demons post their fourth win in a row
CHICAGO — A winning spirit filled the Lincoln Park air on Friday night as the men's tennis team defeated visiting Youngstown State on the courts of Lakeshore Sport and Fitness.
The Blue Demons cinched their fourth win in a row with a 6-1 defeat of the Penguins.
DePaul got off to a quick 1-0 advantage with two doubles wins.
In action at the No. 2 position, the duo of Christopher Casati and Boris Spanjaard took down YSU's Luke Purser and Vasilis Vardakis 7-6 (6). Conor O'Meara and Luuk Wassenaar continued their winning ways as a tandem at No. 3 with a 6-2 victory over Yossi Dahan and Erik Gran.
Wassenaar provided quick momentum for DePaul at No. 5 with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Dahan.
In the No. 4 position, Casati returned to the win column over Luke Purser 6-3, 6-1.
Fran Tonejc clinched DePaul's fourth point and put the match out of reach in a win over Vasilis Vardakis, 6-4, 6-4.
Boris Spanjaard took care of Joao Garretto at No. 2, 6-3, 6-4.
Closing things out for the match, Vito Tonejc moved to 6-1 in dual season play with a 6-0, 4-6, 6-3 win against Danylo Veremeichuk.
Coach Matt Brothers and DePaul (5-2, 2-0) has the week off until they head to sunny Boca Raton, Fla. for matches against FAU and Stetson on Feb. 16.
