The Blue Demons downed both of their opponents to open up the tournament.

ROSEMONT, Ill. - The Blue Demons walked out of the first day of the Total Control Invitational victorious after defeating Green Bay and Evansville.

It took an eighth inning for DePaul to edge the Phoenix, but the Blue Demons sealed their first game of the tournament with a 5-4 victory.

In the later game of the evening, it was a landslide decision that once again ended in DePaul's favor with a 9-1 win over Evansville.

"The team started out strong today," said head coach Tracie Adix-Zins. "We were tested against Green Bay but our girls showed fight in what they have been practicing and putting into the field.

"It was nice to get two wins today and for Krista Dalgarn and Natalie Halvorson to start the season off 1-0 each. Our offense figured out how to manufacture some runs. We need to get better for tomorrow but as a whole I think they fought really hard and came out strong to continue the success from last year."
