No. 24 DePaul Wins Its Seventh in a Row

Millender, Stonewall, Grays, Allen Campbell pace 76-61 victory at Providence
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – No. 24 DePaul came into this quaint southeast New England town focused on extending its late-season run through the BIG EAST.
Mission accomplished as the Blue Demons racked up their seventh win in a row by a 76-61 result over Providence on Friday night. DePaul improved to 22-7 and 13-4 in the BIG EAST.
Ashton Millender led the way with 17 points going 5-of-9 from three-point range and Chante Stonewall came up with 15 clutch points. Mart'e Grays added 13 points in a foul-plagued 18 minutes.
Tanita Allen had one of her best games of the season with 11 points, eight rebounds and three steals. Kelly Campbell is once again stuffing the stat sheet with six points, nine assists, seven rebounds and three steals.
Providence (16-13, 8-9) came within 61-56 early in the fourth quarter when Grays converted a three-point play and Stonewall followed with a rebound layup. That restored a 66-56 margin with 6:10 left in the game.
That evolved into a 12-0 run and a 73-56 lead with 4:24 left as Stonewall hit a three-pointer and Grays followed up with a pair of baskets.
The Friars opened the third quarter with an 8-2 burst in reducing a 34-24 DePaul halftime lead to 36-32. The Blue Demons committed four fouls in the first 1:24 leading to a Blue Demon timeout.
Millender's long-distance connection along with an Allen foul shot followed by a layup on the next possession built the lead back to 44-36. Providence hit a three and it was a five-point game at the media timeout.
Stonewall's five points in a row made it a 10-point game once again. Back came the Friars with an 8-3 spurt to close out the third quarter trailing 53-48.
DePaul found the range from three-point land early in the first quarter, knocking down four of its first six attempts with Stonewall, Millender, Allen and Campbell doing the honors. That resulted in a 14-8 advantage at the media timeout.
Campbell's second 3-pointer made it 17-8 when Providence closed out the quarter on a 7-0 run to pull within 17-15 after one quarter.
The Blue Demons were 5-of-8 from distance after the first 10 minutes. Grays picked up her second foul and sat the rest of the first half.
The Friars drew even at 17-all early in the second quarter when coach Doug Bruno's team went on a 10-0 run highlighted by back-to-back threes from Millender and Sonya Morris. At that point, the visiting team was a sizzling 7-of-10 from deep.
Consecutive scores from Dee Bekelja and Allen off a nice feed from Maya Stovall left DePaul in front 34-21. A Providence three closed the gap to 34-24 at halftime.
Allen had eight points and seven rebounds in the first two quarters and Millender had eight points. Campbell had contributed six points, three rebounds and four assists by intermission. DePaul missed its final four shots from behind the arc and headed into the locker room 7-of-14.
The Blue Demons finish up their regular season and BIG EAST schedule with a Sunday matinee at Creighton that tips at 1 p.m. and will be televised on FS2.
