Blue Demons take unbeaten conference record on the road on Sunday
CHICAGO— The DePaul women's tennis team returned to the courts of Lakeshore Sport and Fitness on Friday night for a marquee matchup against BIG EAST foe Marquette.
The Blue Demons (5-9, 3-0 BIG EAST) prevailed over the visiting Golden Eagles (8-9, 1-2 BIG EAST) 4-3.
In doubles action, Marquette claimed the early advantage with three doubles victories to jump out to a 1-0 match lead.
The Blue Demons quickly bounced back in singles action to take control of the match.
Aspasia Avgeri evened the matchup at 1-1 for DePaul with her 6-2, 6-2 win over Natalija Popovic at No. 2.
Keisha Clousing returned to action in a resounding way to give the Blue Demons the 2-1 edge with her 6-3, 6-2 triumph at No. 1 over Marquette's Fleur Eggink.
Rookie Maddie Yergler widened DePaul's lead to 3-1 with her 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 4 over Alexandrina Chinikova.
Milica Tesic clinched the match for DePaul at No. 5 with a grind out 5-7, 7-5, 6-4 victory over Isabella Franks.
DePaul puts their unbeaten BIG EAST record to the test when the Blue Demons travel to Cincinnati on Sunday for a 5 p.m. match versus the 16-2 Xavier Musketeers.
