Blue Demons Unlock Memphis Tournament Play

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Coming off a 2-3 weekend in the Red and White Showcase, the Blue Demons look ahead to the next challenge that is the Memphis Tournament.
In the tournament, DePaul will face five different opponents in Memphis, Indiana State, Middle Tennessee, IUPUI and Belmont.
DePaul will begin tournament play on Friday with a lone game against host Memphis at 4:15 p.m. CT.
The Blue Demons will play in two Saturday games with the first being at 11:15 a.m. against Indiana State. The second game of the day will be played against Middle Tennessee at 1:30 p.m.
With two contests remaining on Sunday, DPU will face IUPUI in an early 8:30 a.m. game and will finish off the invitational at 1:00 p.m. against Belmont.
Last Time Versus Memphis
DePaul won the sole meeting between the two in 2011 with a 6-5 decision.
Scouting the Tigers
Memphis currently splits the season with a 9-9 overall record. Memphis has won their last four games, all of which were part of the Blues City Classic.
Leading Tiger offense is sophomore Baylee Smith. Slugging a .438 in her 48 at bats this season, Smith has hit six doubles, three triples, four home runs and has contributed 19 RBI.
On the mound, sophomore Mariah Nichols leads the way. Throwing a 2.64 in her 14 appearances, Nichols holds a record of 3-4. She has pitched 50.1 innings this season and has allowed 45 hits and 25 runs.
Last Time Versus Indiana State
The Blue Demons and Sycamores have met one time before in 1988 when Indiana State topped DePaul 4-3.
Scouting the Sycamores
Indiana State also splits its season so far with a 7-7 overall mark. The Sycamores enter the weekend on a five-game losing streak.
Starting in all 14 games, senior Bailey Martin stands out at the plate for the Sycamores. In her 50 at bats, Martin has made contact for 24 hits, three doubles, one triple and two home runs. She is slugging a .480 on the season.
Junior Gabbi Schaniter sits atop the Sycamore pitching staff with a record of 3-2 in her 7 appearances. Throwing a 1.62, Schnaiter has allowed 27 hits and 12 runs this season.
Last Time Versus Middle Tennessee
This will be the first meeting between the two.
Scouting the Blue Raiders
Middle Tennessee currently sits 13-11 on the season and enters the Memphis Tournament coming off of a two-game win streak.
Junior Summer Burgess leads MTU offense, slugging a .354 in her 82 at bats. After starting in all 24 games this season, Burgess has tallied 29 hits and 10 runs, including three doubles. She has also added 8 RBI.
Appearing frequently on the mound this season, freshman Corrina Dodd holds the highest win count with a record of 6-2 in her 13 appearances. She has allowed 46 hits and 24 runs.
Last Time Versus IUPUI
DePaul has won the last six of seven contests against IUPUI. The most recent victory against the Jaguars came in 2018 when the Blue Demons won 8-2.
Both DePaul and IUPUI competed in the Total Control Invitational this season but did not play each other.
Scouting the Jaguars
IUPUI currently holds a record of 5-14.
Starting in all 19 games, Jaida Speth leads at the plate, batting a .378 and totalling 14 hits on the season. Two of Speth's hits have been doubles and she has added six RBI.
With a record of 4-6, Lexi Lucas tops Jags pitchers. Throwing a 5.83 through 11 appearances. Lucas has allowed 74 hits and 57 runs.
Last Time Versus Belmont
Sunday's game will be the first meeting between the two.
Scouting the Bruins
The Bruins currently hold a record of 9-5 on the season.
Standing out offensively is Alicia Veltri. After starting all 14 games for the Bruins, Veltri has tallied 16 hits, two of which being doubles and four home runs. She is hitting a .457 and has contributed 20 RBI.
Veltri has also been a force on the mound for the Bruins, throwing a 2.39 in eight appearances and holding a record of 5-2.
Brooklin Lee also holds down the mound for Belmont, with a record of 4-2. Throwing a 1.83, she has allowed 27 hits and 17 runs.
