Jovicic Saves the Day for Women's Tennis

Blue Demons top St. John's 4-3 to move to 4-1 in BIG EAST play

CHICAGO -- The DePaul women's tennis team completed a comeback for the ages on Saturday night in front of a raucous crowd at Lakeshore Sport and Fitness.

Marija Jovicic's grueling singles victory put DePaul (6-10, 4-1 BIG EAST) on top for good in a 4-3 marathon over Seton Hall (13-7, 5-3 BIG EAST).

The Pirates started off fast with in doubles action as the duo of Anicka Fajnorova and Regina Pitts took down Lenka Antonijevic and Jovicic at No. 1, 7-6. Seton Hall clinched the doubles point as Thandy Kangwa and Minja Gligic dropped Aspasia Avgeri and Alina Kuzmenkova at No. 3, 7-6. Milica Tesic and Maddie Yergler teamed up to take down Melody Taal and Michal Matson in the No. 3 position, 4-6.

In singles action, Kuzmenkova got the Blue Demons started at No. 4 with a dominant 6-1, 7-6 win over Matson to even the match at 1-1.

After the Pirates gained the 2-1 advantage, Aspasia Avgeri evened the match once again at the No. 2 position defeating Pitts, 6-2, 7-6.

Keisha Clousing continued her excellence at No. 1 with a 7-6, 6-2 victory over Fajnorova.

Following another Seton Hall point, it came down to court No. 3 as Marija Jovicic and Melody Taal battled it out for the match clinching point. Jovicic prevailed for the Blue Demons in a thrilling 7-6, 2-6, 7-6 match.

With the win the Blue Demons move to 4-1 in conference and 4-0 at Lakeshore Sport and Fitness.

DePaul will put their perfect home record to the test in their home finale tomorrow afternoon when the St. John's Red Storm visit Lincoln Park for a 2 p.m. match.
