Senior Caroline Muller breaks own school record in high jump
CHICAGO – A new school record was set and many top-three performances finished off the outdoor season for DePaul track & field teams at the Huskie Classic. The event, hosted in suburban DeKalb, Ill., saw competition from Northwestern, Chicago State, Loyola, Bradley, Triton College and host Northern Illinois.
Caroline Muller broke her own school record in the outdoor high jump. Her 1.74-meter mark was good for gold in the event. The new score will mark out her previous best of 1.72 meters that was matched at the SIU Bill Cornell Spring Classic in March.
Continuing the field success were Blue Demons Will Hauser, Paul Monteleone and Andrew Rocco in the men's javelin competition who swept the podium. Junior Dylan Marshall threw a 44.81-meter javelin that was good for gold and a new personal record in the event.
Again sweeping the podium in men's discus was Kyle Hedge who led DePaul with a 45.35-meter throw. Isaac Jimenez had a PR in the event with a 44.10-meter finish to best his previous record set at the DePaul Invitational.
Sophomore standout Jade Gates set a new PR in the discus with a 42.15-meter mark to take silver in the event. In the same event, junior Rebecca Chounaird set a new PR with a distance of 36.62 meters. Her previous record of 35.70m was set at the DePaul Invitational in April.
In the shot put, Kyle Hedge threw a season-best 15.79 meters that was good for gold at the meet hosted by Northern Illinois. Joining Hedge on the podium were fellow throwers Jimenez and Murray to sweep the podium.
The women's long jump saw newcomer Esther Aldana set a new PR in the event with a 5.19 mark to take home bronze. In the same event on the men's side, Chris Cadet had a season-best performance of 14.96 to take home gold. Coming in second was freshman Kyle Casper who took home silver in his first time competing in the event.
Continuing the success for the jumpers was Sydnee Matthew who set a PR in the triple jump with a final mark of 12.04 meters that was good for second. Her previous best mark (11.99m) was set at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships last season. Fellow jumper Terece Brown recorded a season-best, 11.22-meter final mark.
