Four DePaul Players Named to All-BIG EAST Awards

Maranda Gutierrez snags All-BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year and three other Blue Demons capture conference awards.
DePaul has the second-most players named to awards this season with four, just behind St. John's who has seven players being honored. BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year Gutierrez is an anchor for DePaul defense, guiding the Blue Demons to a team fielding percentage of .971 in league play as DePaul secured the No. 2 seed going into the BIG EAST Championship. The Whitter, Calif. native registered 25 putouts and 23 assists. With only two errors in 50 attempts, she achieved a .960 fielding percentage. She is also a force at the plate, coming in seventh in the conference and second on the team with a batting average of .382. In league play, she scored a team-high 15 runs.Â
Named to the All-BIG EAST First Team, Cothern had an explosive season at the plate. Hitting a .344, she holds the second-highest batting average on the team and leads the team in at bats with 157, hits with 54, doubles with 17 and rbi with 47. She also has the second-most home runs on the team with eight on the season. Her 48 hits and 41 rbi in league play top BIG EAST batters.
Previous BIG EAST Freshman of the Year Kate Polucha is now named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team after leading the team in doubles with two on the season, sitting third in the league in hits with 41 and second in the league in rbi with 34. Freshman Gabby O'Riley also lands a spot on the All-BIG EAST Second Team, coming up fourth in the BIG EAST in rbi with 26.Â
