Men’s Basketball Travels to France, Italy in August

Blue Demons to walk in the footsteps of St. Vincent de Paul
CHICAGO – A unique educational and athletic opportunity awaits the DePaul men's basketball program in August as the Blue Demons travel to France to walk in the footsteps of St. Vincent de Paul followed by a trip to Italy to conclude the excursion. Prior to leaving for Europe on Aug. 3, the team is taking the "Catholicism as Spiritual Path" class before walking in the footsteps of St. Vincent in France.
Led by Rev. Edward R. Udovic, C.M., Ph.D., the team will learn the foundation of DePaul University's mission with the teachings of St. Vincent de Paul. In the weeks leading up to the trip, Udovic will lead the academic portion of the experience on the Lincoln Park campus.
An overseas flight starting Saturday, Aug. 3 lands in Paris on Sunday, Aug. 4 to start a two-week trip through France and Italy. In addition to the St. Vincent portion of the trip, the players, coaches and staff will visit Normandy and conclude the trip in Rome before returning to Chicago on Aug. 14.
The Blue Demons are scheduled to play three games with two in Paris and one in Rome. The first game is Tuesday, Aug. 6 against a U25 team from the Netherlands. On Aug. 8, DePaul will play the Paris All-Stars. The final game of the trip will also be against the Netherlands U25 squad in Rome on Monday, Aug. 12.
The first four days of the trip will be centered in and around Paris before the team travels to Caen for two days. While in Caen, the group will visit Normandy and the spectacular Mont St. Michel. A flight to Rome on Sunday, Aug. 11 is followed by tours of "classical" Rome and Vatican City before the return flight home on Aug. 14.
Season ticket holders that purchase a $100 Priority Seat Selection Membership will support The Fund for Basketball Excellence. Part of this fund supports the team's trip to France and Italy along with other initiatives to enhance the student-athlete experience strategically and operationally. Season ticket holders can contact the ticket office for more information. Donations can also be made to the fund in any amount online.
