No. 14/15 DePaul Eyes Eighth Win in a Row

Blue Demons wary of upset-minded Butler in 1 p.m. game Sunday
INDIANAPOLIS – With each stop along this BIG EAST tour, No. 14/15 DePaul is accompanied by a largely conspicuous target on its back.
An eager Butler team fresh off a big conference win over Marquette on Friday night will be aiming for the bullseye when it hosts the Blue Demons at 1 p.m. (Central Time) Sunday at its historic home court, Hinkle Fieldhouse.
And just like the award-winning movie filmed at Hinkle Fieldhouse where the prohibitive underdog plays David taking down Goliath, these Bulldogs would love nothing better than to take a bite out of the DePaul's unblemished BIG EAST record.
That's pretty much the scenario every time coach Doug Bruno and his Blue Demons set foot on a BIG EAST basketball court---especially on the road. Taking down the big dog is essentially the inspiration of a quality Division I student-athlete.
DePaul (16-2, 6-0) came into the conference season as the heavy favorite in the BIG EAST coaches balloting to win the regular-season title. It was by unanimous consent.
Further motivation is provided by the Blue Demons being the only BIG EAST team appearing week-in and week-out in the national Top 25 polls.
As such, the pride of Lincoln Park always faces an opponent's "A" game. Such will be the case again on Sunday as Butler (12-5, 4-2) lays in ambush led by Kristen Spolyar who scored 30 points against Marquette.
Fans tuning in on the BIG EAST Digital Network will view a stark contrast. DePaul is No. 3 in the nation in scoring at more than 86 points a game while the Butler defense is holding opponents to just over 58 points a game.
The up-tempo Blue Demons will want to turn this into an up-and-down-the-court game, deploying their vaunted full-court press that is forcing opponents to helter-skelter their way to nearly 23 turnovers a game. Butler comes in averaging nearly 17 a game.
At the pressure point of attack is long-armed, 6-foot, 1-inch Chante Stonewall with disruptive fellow senior Kelly Campbell creating her own distinctive brand of havoc. Lexi Held, Sonya Morris and Deja Church have the basketball instincts to cut off passing lanes and force turnovers.
DePaul is third in the nation in steals and turnover margin and No. 8 in turnovers forced. Causing such a ruckus forces opponents into an uncomfortably fast pace.
Campbell needs 13 points to reach the 1,000-point plateau for her career. Stonewall is 16 points away from overtaking 2018-19 teammate Ashton Millender for No. 21 on the all-time scoring list.
