Blue Demons go 7-for-7 in their final day at the Indiana Winter Invitational

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – It was a singles kind of a day for DePaul women's tennis Sunday as coach Marisa Arce and her team finished up on a high note at the Indiana Winter Invitational.

The Blue Demons swept the singles field at the IU Tennis Center winning all seven matches in their best showing of the tournament season.

It was no doubt a sweet ride back to Lincoln Park on Sunday night.

Senior All-BIG EAST standout Aspasia Avgeri got it started with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Luisa Pelayo of Wright State. Yuliya Kizelbasheva followed with a 6-3, 3-6, 10-8 decision over Indiana's Michelle McKamey.

Layo Adelakun took Fernanda Naves of Northern Illinois in straight sets 6-4, 6-4 while Hristina Djokic swept the Hoosiers' Lexi Kubas 6-1, 6-3.

Marija Jovicic had a straight-sets triumph 6-3, 6-0 over Isabella Franks of BIG EAST rival Marquette and Lenka Antonijevic did likewise 7-5, 6-2 against Marquette's Lesley Foe.

Maddie Yergler put the exclamation point on the singles round with a hard-fought 7-6 (5), 0-6, 12-10 victory over Marquette's Elizabeth Ferdman.

The top doubles performance came from Jovicic and Djokic who went 2-0 on the day knocking off the Wright State pair of Jones/Reynolds 6-3 and following up with a 6-1 win over NIU's Kaminski/Green in round four.

The Antonijevic/Avgeri pairing won its lone doubles match of the day 6-3 over Marshall's Ballow/Stefancic. Yergler and Adelakun split their doubles matches, outpointing NIU's Kaminski/Green in round three.

The Blue Demons will open their dual-match season Friday with a 7 p.m. match against Western Michigan at Lakeshore Sport & Fitness.
