The former Blue Demon will attend her first full USWNT camp
CHICAGO - Former Blue Demon Sarah Gorden has been named to the roster for this fall's U.S. Women's National Team training camp, according to a release from USA Soccer. Gorden will be part of a 27-player roster named by U.S. Women's National Team head coach Vlatko Andonovski that will participate in an 11-day training camp. The camp will run from Oct. 18-28 in Commerce City, Colorado. Gorden has been named to the roster after participating in USWNT Identification Camp last December.
Gorden was the first DePaul Women's Soccer player to be selected in the NWSL draft when she was taken by the Chicago Red Stars with the 22nd pick of the 2016 NWSL College Draft. When she was drafted by the Red Stars, Gorden emphasized how much she was looking forward to playing with members of the USWNT that had just completed a gold-medal run at the Women's World Cup during the summer of 2015. Now, she'll be added to the group looking to solidify a spot on the USWNT's first squad going forward. Gorden is one of six Chicago Red Stars to be named to the training camp roster.Â
The Elk Grove, Ill. native played the entirety of six games for the Red Stars during the 2020 NWSL Challenge Cup in Herriman, Utah over the summer. Gorden helped the Red Stars tally three clean-sheets in seven games and played a key roll on the back line as Chicago advanced to the Challenge Cup championship after three straight wins in tournament play.Â
During her time at DePaul, Gorden spearheaded a back line that helped lead the Blue Demons to consecutive NCAA tournament appearances in 2014 and 2015. In 2014, Gorden & Co. set a school record with a 20-game undefeated streak that was tied with No. 1-ranked UCLA for longest in the nation. DePaul went 28-5-8 over the 2014 and 2015 seasons and won its first BIG EAST regular-season and tournament titles in 2014 with Gorden anchoring the defensive unit. She was named to the NSCAA All-Northeast Region First Team in both 2014 and 2015 and earned All-BIG EAST First Team honors in 2015.
