DePaul men's tennis drops 4-1 decision to a top-40 team
DES MOINES, Iowa. – DePaul men's tennis ran into one of the nation's top-40 teams Saturday on its three-day road trip through Nebraska and Iowa.
The Blue Demon dropped a 4-1 decision to a Wichita State powerhouse that was just two points away from upsetting No. 14 Tennessee two weeks ago. The Shockers are 9-3 and have won eight of their last nine matches.
Christopher Casati put DePaul (3-6) on the scoreboard with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Stefan Latinovic at No. 4 singles. Boris Spanjaard came up just short in a 7-6, 7-5 setback to Orel Ovil at No. 2.
Luuk Wassenaar and Tripp Tuff teamed up for a 6-4 doubles win over the Wichita State tandem of Latinovic and Benjamin Niv. Spanjaard and Casati were within two points of winning the doubles point before falling 7-6 (4) to Murkel Dellien and Marius Frosa.
Coach Matt Brothers and his Blue Demons will conclude the three-match road swing with a 4 p.m. match Sunday against the host team Drake, which lost to Wichita State 4-1 on Friday.
