Track & Field Travels to Buckeye State for BIG EAST Indoor Championships

The Blue Demons look to build of the momentum of a successful indoor season at the league championships
GENEVA, Ohio — The Blue Demons travel to the Buckeye State to compete in the 2020 BIG EAST Indoor Track & Field Championships presented by Jeep. The final meet wraps up a highly successful indoor season that saw new school records, conference weekly accolades and a USTFCCCA Midwest Region ranking for the men.
Competition is slated to begin for the Blue Demons on Sunday at 11 a.m. CT with the women's weight throw at the SPIRE Institute, home of the league's indoor championships in 2019 and 2013. The preliminary heats of the women's 60m hurdles will kick off the running events at 12 p.m. CT.
The BIG EAST Digital Network presented by SofFi will cover the running events live with Matt Schumacker beginning at 11:15 a.m. on Sunday. BEDN correspondent Johnny Soper will have trackside interviews with the winners. Field events will be taped with highlights inserted into the two-day broadcast.
In the BIG EAST standings, 11 Blue Demon men and 13 DePaul women rank within the top five among conference competitors in their respective events. For the men, Kyle Mastrangeli (60m), Henry Larkin (400m), Asthon Colaire (60m Hurdles), Jason Montano (shot put) and the 4x400 squad of Jarel Terry, Kolani Cole, Ben Lee and Larkin hold the top spot in the league. For the women, current program-record-holder Jade Gates leads the conerence in the weight throw.
After numerous solid performances throughout the season, most notably at the Meyo Invitational, the DePaul men's track & field squad marked its highest ranking in the USTFCCCA Midwest Regional Rankings at No. 12. The squad is currently ranked No. 16 in the region, ahead of Chicago rivals Loyola, UIC and Chicago State.
Traveling for the men's squad is: Chris Ahlers, Babajide Bamgbose, Kyle Casper, Ashton Colaire, Kolani Cole, Julian Davis, Henry Harper, Jules Gueguen, Scott Jonske, Shane Knanishu, Henry Larkin, Ben Lee, Ben Litwin, Charlie McIntyre, Dominic Marshall, Kyle Mastrangeli, Jason Montano, Alex Murray, Adam Nelson, Michael Parry, Jarel Terry and Brendan van Voorhis.
The women's team will consist of: Esther Aldana, Dylan Armstrong, Olivia Borowiak, Terece Brown, Tori Carroll, Lorie Cashdollar, Rutendo Chimbaru, Rebecca Chouinard, Lizzie De Joie, Jade Gates, Violet Harper, Margaret Hastings, Alexa Havon, Isabel Ingram, Chasady Johnson, Alicia Jones, Kindle Miles, Mackenna Orie, Kiara Pauli, Bella Uscila and Kiersten Walker.

Senior Adam Nelson (6.82) led the Blue Demons marking a first-place finish in the 60m dash to mark the first time the program record would be broken this season. Fellow senior Ashton Colaire flirted with the school's 60m hurdles record (8.12) for the first time with a time of 8.14.
GVSU Bill Clinger Classic
Current program record holder and BIG EAST outdoor champion Jade Gates updated her own record - for the first time this season - in the invite weight throw with an impressive 18.82 meters to finish 3rd. Continuing success in the field, newcomers Mackenna Orie and Kindle Miles earned gold with a distance of 14.64m in the weight throw and a 12.36m shot put finish, respectively.
On the track, freshman Tori Carroll dominated the 60m dash, clocking a time of 7.74 to earn a spot atop the 67 other competitors. For the men, in his first race as a Blue Demon, Ben Lee set the program record in the the 600m run with a time of 1:19.34. Ashton Colaire again earned first place in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.15 seconds.
Illini Invite
Clocking in a time of 8.00 flat in the finals, senior Ashton Colaire updated the DePaul record books in the 60m hurdles after shaving off 0.16 seconds from his prelim time. No stranger to the podium, Jade Gates' weight throw performance was good for gold measuring in at 18.52m. Isabel Ingram led the women on the track crossing the line at 8.59 seconds in the 60m hurdles to earn first place.
Meyo Invitational
Kyle Mastrangeli replaced the program record set earlier in the season by Adam Nelson in the 60m dash with a time of 6.79 in the prelims. Jade Gates once again marked a record book update in the weight throw competition. The St. Louis native, who also holds the program record in the hammer throw, launched an impressive 20.19-meter distance to update her record.
GVSU Big Meet Invite
Three program-record-holders bested their marks at the Big Meet hosted by Grand Valley State. Shaving off a few hundredths of a second, Kyle Mastrangeli's dominating performance earned him first place with a time of 6.75. Fellow sprinter Ashton Colaire's performance in the 60m hurdles updated his mark to an impressive 7.97. Continuing instant success, Ben Lee captured the title in the 800m run with a time of 1:50.00 flat.
