DePaul junior forward named second team for District 5
CHICAGO – Junior forward Paul Reed was named a second team All-District honoree by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC). The 2019-20 NABC Division I All-District teams and coaches were selected and voted on by member coaches of the NABC in NCAA Division I.
The NABC honor follows a second team All-BIG EAST recognition for Reed after averaging 15.1 points and 10.7 rebounds per game this season. The Orlando native also recorded 74 blocked shots in 29 games while shooting .516 (182-353) from the field with 18 double-doubles. Reed's 74 rejections set a new program record for the junior class breaking the previous mark of 62 by Jeff Stern set during the 1990-91 season.
Through 93 career games, Reed ranks among all-time leaders in blocked shots (3rd – 142), field goal percentage (9th – .535), rebounds (17th – 701), rebounds per game (t19th – 7.5), steals (27th – 109) and points (55th – 983). The season record book saw Reed finish in the top 20 in four categories. He was among the top single-season performances in blocked shots (3rd – 74), rebounds (12th – 310), rebounds per game (t16th – 10.7) and steals (19th – 54).
The two teams of honorees for District 5 consisted of Ty-Shon Alexander (Creighton), Kamar Baldwin (Butler), Saddiq Bey (Villanova), Markus Howard (Marquette), Myles Powell (Seton Hall) on the first team. Reed was joined on the second team by Romaro Gill (Seton Hall), Collin Gillespie (Villanova), Tyrique Jones (Xavier) and Marcus Zegarowski (Creighton). Creighton's Greg McDermott was the District 5 Coach of the Year.
