Gutierrez Named CoSIDA Academic All-District

CHICAGO - Junior shortstop Maranda Gutierrez was named a CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree Thursday and tabbed to the District 5 First Team. The 2019 BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year was one of three of the conference's student-athletes recognized by CoSIDA.
CoSIDA recognizes top student-athletes across the nation for their performances in the classroom and on the field. Academic All-District first team honorees will advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. This year due to COVID-19, instead of only single season accolades being taken into consideration, CoSIDA allowed the 2020 awards to be based on career statistics and achievements. The nominee must also have above a 3.30 GPA to be considered.
Gutierrez is currently studying Elementary Education and has maintained a 3.98 GPA. On the field, she has started all 123 games she has played in and posts a .305 batting average. The Whittier, Calif. native has amassed 109 hits while launching 16 home runs and tallying 44 total RBI. She was named to the 2019 All-BIG EAST First Team and the 2018 All-BIG EAST Second Team as a freshman.
