Kobe Elvis and Charlie Moore scored in double figures to lead Blue Demons
CHICAGO – An ice-cold first half was too much to overcome as DePaul dropped a 67-53 game to visiting Butler. Kobe Elvis led DePaul with 12 points while Charlie Moore added 11 points.
The Blue Demons shot just .250 (7-28) from the field in the first half and trailed 35-17 at the break. Butler jumped to an early five-point advantage before a free throw by Nick Ongenda made the score 10-6 with 13:48 on the clock.
Over nearly 10 minutes, DePaul (2-5, 0-5 BIG EAST) went cold and the Bulldogs built a double-digit advantage. Elvis scored on a driving layup to make the score 28-12 at the four-minute mark before intermission.
The second half played even as a driving jumper by Elvis made the score 57-41 with eight minutes left in the game. DePaul continued to chip away and Ray Salnave closed the deficit to 13 points at the five-minute mark before a free throw by Elvis pulled the Blue Demons to within dozen with just under four minutes left. Elvis' free throw made the score 60-48, but that would be as close as DePaul would get for the remainder of the evening.
Butler (5-7, 4-5 BIG EAST) was led by Jair Bolden who was the game's high scorer with 21 points.
Up next for the Blue Demons is a Saturday evening game at Marquette. Start time in Milwaukee is set for 5 p.m. on FS1 and WIND (560 AM).
