Chicago, Ill. native returns to the program after serving as an interim assistant in 2021
CHICAGO – DePaul softball head coach Tracie Adix-Zins announced on Friday that Abby Ramirez has joined the staff as an assistant coach. Ramirez returns to Lincoln Park after serving as an interim assistant coach in the spring of 2021. In her interim stint, Ramirez helped guide the Blue Demons to a BIG EAST regular season title and earned BIG EAST Coaching Staff of the Year honors.
"I am very excited about Abby joining our staff" said Adix-Zins. "She brings a wealth of knowledge to the program after competing as a player at Michigan and for the past two seasons with Athletes Unlimited. After joining us last season, she already has a working knowledge of our team and I know her skill set will help push our team to achieve our goals."
As a four-year shortstop at Michigan, Ramirez was a three-time NFCA All-Great Lakes honoree landing on the first, second and third teams during her time in Ann Arbor. Additionally, the Chicago, Illinois native was named to the 2015 NCAA All-Tournament Team after the Wolverines finished runner-up in Oklahoma City.
"I am so excited to be a part of the Blue Demon family" said Ramirez. "From my experience last season with the program, I know DePaul is a special place focused on helping student athletes learn and grow both on the field and in life. I can't wait to get to work!"
Upon completing her collegiate career, Ramirez played two seasons for the Chicago Bandits in the National Pro FastPitch League while also serving as a Graduate Manager for Northwestern Softball. With the Wildcats, Ramirez managed practice plans while assisting with day-to-day operations of the program. Following her stint with the Bandits, Ramirez was selected to compete in the inaugural season of Athletes Unlimited in 2020 with the greatest softball athletes in the world. She returned for season two hosted in Rosemont, Ill. and just wrapped up competition on Sept. 27.
Ramirez, a four-time U-M Athletic Academic Achievement recipient and a three-time All-Big Ten Academic Team honoree, graduated with her Bachelors in Communications and received her Master's in Sports Administration from Northwestern in 2019.
