
DePaul Travels to Marquette for Midweek Matchup

Blue Demons meet Golden Eagles at 12 p.m. at the Al McGuire Center
CHICAGO – The DePaul women's volleyball team will embark on a quick trip up I-94 on Wednesday as the Blue Demons take on Marquette in a midweek matchup. First serve from the Al McGuire Center is set for 12 p.m. CT.

Demon Doings: DePaul enters the back half of BIG EAST play 12-8 on the year and 5-3 in conference matches. The Blue Demons sit in a tie for fourth place with Xavier in the league standings. Last weekend, DePaul went 2-0 at McGrath-Phillips Arena with a sweep over Seton Hall and a five-set victory over St. John's. The win over the Red Storm marked the first since 2017 for the Blue Demons and the first in the Marie Zidek era.
Through eight conference matches, the Blue Demons attack is led by a pair of sophomore outside hitters, Jill Pressly and Hanna Karl. Pressly is averaging a team-high 3.73 kills per set while Karl has come on strong as of late with 2.54 kills per set. Both Pressly and Karl have contributed on the defensive end as well averaging 3.08 and 2.71 digs per set, respectively. Senior middle blocker Donna Brown bolsters the attack with 2.35 kills per set on a team-best .435 hitting percentage in BIG EAST matches. Brown leads the Blue Demons at the net with 27 blocks against conference opponents.
Sophomore libero Rachel Krasowski anchors the back line with 4.23 digs per set in league play.
Scouting Marquette: The Golden Eagles have won 10 of their last 11 matches with their lone setback coming at the hands of then-ranked No. 19 Creighton on Oct. 10. Marquette ranks first in the BIG EAST at 7-1 and sits at 16-3 overall for the 2021 season. MU is led by graduate setter/right side Taylor Wolf who is averaging 3.43 kills per set in conference matches to go along with 5.43 assists per set. Wolf is supported by graduated outside Hope Werch who has totaled 79 kills (3.16 per set) through Marquette's eight conference matches. The Golden Eagles are potent at the net, out-blocking opponents 155.5 to 103.5 on the season led by middle blocker Savannah Rennie (1.22 blocks per set). Marquette is receiving votes in the AVCA Coaches Poll for the ninth week in a row.
Series Stuff: Wednesday marks the second meeting between the two programs in 16 days. The Golden Eagles took the first matchup on Oct. 3, 3-0 and hold a 39-28 edge in the series.
RPI Update: In the third release of the NCAA RPI, a key post-season ranking metric, the Blue Demons moved up 14 spots to a season-best 72. In the initial ranking on Oct. 3 DePaul sat at 109. The BIG EAST boasts five squads in the top-75 with Creighton at 13 followed by Marquette at 19. St. John's is just ahead of the Blue Demons at 65. UConn rounds out the top-five at 75.
Brown Named to BIG EAST Honor Roll: After leading DePaul to a 2-0 weekend with wins over Seton Hall and St. John's, Donna Brown was selected to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll. Brown averaged 2.75 kills per set and 1.13 blocks per set while hitting a staggering .559 on the weekend. On the season, the Galloway, Ohio native is hitting a team-best .337 while averaging 2.19 kills per set and .89 blocks per set.
Up Next: After facing the Golden Eagles, the Blue Demons will continue its road swing with a trip to Storrs, Conn. to take on Connecticut on Oct. 24. The Huskies swept DePaul at McGrath-Phillips Arena on Oct. 2.
