The Golden Eagles came within two at 12-10 before the Blue Demons won five of the next six points to go up 17-11. Marquette went on a 4-0 run to cut the deficit to 17-15, but the Blue Demons responded with a pair of points of their own to go up 19-15 after a Kindelberger and Nelson block. Set Three – A Donna Brown and Hanna Karl block evened the score at nine apiece followed by a Krasowski service ace to put the Blue Demons in front 10-9 in set three. From Head Coach Marie Zidek: "Wow what a match. The result stings because we know how good Marquette is and we have been chipping away at them for years now - we know we played well enough and created the opportunity to beat them. This group showed tremendous maturity coming out and starting up 2-0 in set play. And then we still were able to go play for play with them in the 5th even though they had turned up their attacking. Great job by both the starters and non-starters today. Our defense had a major bounce back and our offense responded. Dennemann came in and had some crucial kills for us in the 4th and 5th sets. Incredible team effort and show of toughness. At the end of the match, Marquette's two best players were just able to dial up more and score the 3 attacks they needed to win out. Tremendously proud of this group and the way we played in that match. Our opportunities are starting to come in big matches, and we will continue to learn how to elevate when they do."
Up Next: The Blue Demons will head back to Lincoln Park before traveling to Storrs, Conn. on Sunday, Oct. 24 for a 1 p.m. matchup with the Connecticut Huskies.
