Wins singles and doubles matches at Louisville Tennis Classic
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Valentina Martin was the big winner for DePaul on Saturday at the Louisville Tennis Classic.
In singles, Martin prevailed in three sets over Middle Tennessee State's Lilly-Sophie Schmidt 6-1, 2-6, 10-8. Yuliya Kizelbasheva came through with a dominant 6-1, 6-1 straight set victory over Zani Barnard of Middle Tennessee.
The lone bright spot on the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center doubles court was Martin and Maddie Yergler taking down Mariya Polishchuk and Livia Lukacs of Ball State 6-4.
After sweeping five doubles matches on Friday, DePaul went 1-5 on Saturday. An injury to Lenka Antonijevic necessitated a change in the top doubles tandem with Yuliya Kizelbasheva pairing up with Kaya Rand.
It wasn't the most opportune time for Antonijevic to miss a match. The Blue Demons went up against Louisville's Andrea Di Palma and Rhea Verma who are ranked No. 16 in the ITA's Top 60 nationally and lost 6-1.
Coach Marisa Arce and her team will conclude the fall tournament season with singles matches against Ball State Sunday in the tournament's hidden-duals format.
