DePaul doubles team defeats talented duo from Oregon at Husky Invitational
SEATTLE – This may well be the toughest competition DePaul women's tennis will face all year.
The Blue Demons were confronted with three of the Pac-12's finest on Friday in the opening day of the Husky Invitational hosted by Washington.
The host Huskies finished the 2020-21 season ranked No. 43 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Top 75 national rankings.
Conference rivals Oregon (No. 46) and Washington State (No. 53) were not far behind. Coach Marisa Arce's team went up against all three at the Nordstrom Tennis Center.
The highlight of the day was Yuliya Kizelbasheva and Lenka Antonijevic's 7-6 victory over Oregon's Uxia Martinez Moral and Myah Petchey.
The Blue Demon duo came so close to doubling up in the win column, dropping a narrow 7-6 decision after six tiebreaks to Michaela Bayerlova and Savanna Ly-Nguyen of Washington State.
Yuliya Kizelbasheva and Lenka Antonijevic couldn't ask for better preparation in advance of the ITA Super Regional beginning Oct. 22 in Columbus, Ohio.
The Huskies won all six singles matches against DePaul although Kizelbasheva battled Hikaru Sato to a 6-1, 6-7, 6-2 result.
On Saturday, the Blue Demons will take on the host Huskies in doubles and Washington State in singles.
